Hi everybody!! It has been a while but I’m back! As promised here it is my article about a new city: Brussels! Yep! The capital of Europe, have you ever been there? Well, there isn’t a common view about this city, Brussels is a little bit like me either you love it or you hate it, no half measures! 😛
Where should I start? Oh sure… from the wonderful Grand Place! It is In the center of the city just 5 minutes’ walk from the Gare central. The Grand-Place is considered as one of the most beautiful places of the world. It was added on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1998.
I can’t talk about Brussels without mentioning the Manneken- Pis.
Believe it or not… this is the symbol of the city. He has been dressed up with several fun costumes. You will also find a baby girl and a dog peeing: the Jeanneke-Pis and Zinneke Pis! Yes, that’s true, I’m not joking, I swear! They are so cute, go see them and then judge!
I totally recommend you another magic spot: the Atomium. It’s a little far from the city center but it’s worth the journey, I assure you! The Atomium was constructed for the first post-war universal world exhibition.
As said before Brussels is the capital of Europe, therefore here you can find all the most important European Institutions, such as the European Parliament, the European Commission, and the European Council. In the middle of the European area there stands the wonderful Parc du Cinquanteniere.
It is a vast green space and it is dominated by a Triumphal arch with three arches. The park hosts numerous activities and events throughout the year. You can easily get there by the two subway stops Schuman and Mérode.
Let me remind you that Brussels is full of interesting Museums such as the Magritte Museum, the Museum of Musical instruments, the Comic Strip Museum or the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History, and as a history lover this last one really freaked me out!
5 km from the city center there is a huge green space called Bois de la Cambre. Here it seems to be in Heaven! You can go for a long walk, for a bike ride or if you wish, you can even go on a canoe ride all around the lake that stands in the middle of the wood.
Other beautiful places are the Eglise de Sainte – Catherine, or la Bourse; this last one is a rendezvous point for many young people. Here there are plenty of pubs and nightclubs!
By the way… Belgian beer is famous all over the world and trust me it won’t disappoint you!
Brussels is not just the city of the beer but also the city of the chocolate, you can’t go to Brussels without tasting a piece of chocolate that will take you straight to heaven!
Other two typical dishes are the famous and tasty Gaufre and the … Frites!
Les Frites are the element of discord between France and Belgium, so who invented them? How we have to call them: French fries or les frites? Anyway they are so damn good! Les frites can be served alone or with the mussel. Moules frites, or mussels with fries is the most typical dish in Belgium, it’s a national obsession!
The city hosts people from all over the world: behind an apparent gray city lies a lively one where you can enjoy amazing new experiences! So what are you waiting for? Leave now and go to Brussels!!!
